Long Time Coming

Hey everyone!

Been a long time since my last post. I had been struggling to make time for personal art, but now I've moved into a new place things are a lot more settled I've finally managed to get something done. (:

This is a submission for Threadless - my first one so far. It's up for voting until the 20th March, so if you'd like to wear this on your bod, give it a vote! (:

I'll keep updating when I've got new stuff to show. Hopefully things should be a lot more regular now (:

Cheers for reading,
Paula

Studies and Other Things

Hey everyone!
It's been a long time since a last post, and the reason for that is that I have got a job at an awesome little company called Ninja Kiwi in Auckland! So, I've been pretty busy moving and adjusting to a big shift in my life - but a really welcome and fantastic one I must say!

I've been drawing a lot, but only now have I really thought to put them up here, now I'm getting more settled in. :)

So, here they are! Some are a little older but most are very recent. Enjoy and as always, thanks for reading and watching!

Bears

I was looking back through an old sketchbook of mine and I stumbled across these. They're actually from 2009, but I still think that they pretty nice looking, especially since I was only 15 or so at the time. For me this is an indication that it was a good move to start spreading out and not just drawing pencil animals from photographs; or at least actually think about the anatomy beneath (which I wasn't really doing a few years back).

Because I found (and still find) drawing sketches from photos relatively easy, so I think also changing my main way of drawing to digital is good also as it offers some different challenges (and advantages) that aren't available through the standard traditional pen and paper.

Anyway, that's all for now!

Thanks for reading,

Paula! :)

Photostudy Jellyfish

Just as the title suggest- a photostudy of some Jellyfish. This was a little different to what I usually draw so I thought I would give it a go. I apologise for the short update this week, but I've got my relatives all up this week and weekend so it makes for a very very busy time (but a lot of fun though)!

That's all for now! Thanks a lot for reading :)

Armageddon Post

Hey all out there! This was the picture that I drew as a sort of demonstration thing over the long weekend. I was there on the Saturday and then I came back on the Monday with my sister to have another look at the goodies that were available. I spent way too much money, but I did get a lot of cool stuff which was really good!

It was a lot of fun drawing this and talking to people about drawing and that sort of thing, though it was a little bit scary at first I sort of got used to it after a few hours. Oh and my favourite part of the weekend was when one guy was saying to his friends that the only reason my picture looked good was because I was using a large tablet- but when one of his friends actually had a look he saw that I was using a very small Wacom Bamboo and then his friends mocked him and laughed at him and it made me crack up laughing so much.

So a good weekend was hopefully had by all!

Right! That's all for now! Thanks for reading :)

Yo! Concept Art Stuff- Day One and Two

As it turns out I do have internet! SO I am updating after each day. I'm pretty tired now (days start at 9am and finish at 7pm) so I won't ramble on too long (for once :P).
Day One Alien Samurai Bust
Day One Alien Spider

Day Two Rat Dragon Catfish Alien Dude

Looking forward to tomorrow! Hopefully I can finish off more than one picture tomorrow so I can stick it up here as well.

That's all for now, and thanks for stopping by! :)

Stomp the Uni

A picture of a friends Neopet design that she asked for. I don't play Neopets anymore but when I was younger I used to be completely obsessed with it. It was rather unhealthy of me...

BUT I digress! It's good when I complete drawings. I just need to start putting more backgrounds into things.

Done in Photoshop over several hours.

Leopard Study

Just another photo study- this time of a super cute little feline! Not much else to say apart from that :)

Wolf Study

My tonal version and colour of a wolf study that I did today. From a photo reference :). I haven't really done this using this technique before so it was all a bit of a learning curve. I really enjoy doing this sort of thing and I like feeling as if I've learnt something when I finish a drawing.

There Be Monsters

All the concepts that I've done so far grouped together! I really knuckled down today and got a whole lot of them done. I will start some other ones later, but at the moment I am really happy with these guys! When I get around to adding colour, I'll put the coloured version up but for now it's just tonal pictures allll they way.

One day I'll think of an original title...

I found this sketch that I did a couple of years ago and I thought I would post it up as it's something that I still quite like.

Sketch Book Uploads

Just a dragon drawing from a different perspective

Planning some of my next 100 themes challenges- and at the bottom there is my idea for 'Insanity'

My finished drawing for 'Innocence' and above on the planning page you can see my rough sketch
Thought I would try some foreshortening on this last picture and now I'm actually really trying to put a lot of thought into my drawings, rather than just putting pencil to paper and seeing what happens. I feel that my drawings come out looking more visually appealing but I still have a long way to go. I will colour these at some point- well the last couple at least.

And these pictures were just some life drawings that I did when I went to the local Botanical Gardens. And I managed to draw the Pukeko before he escaped into the underbrush which is always a plus. Just trying to keep up the old drawing skills, and drawing from life always forces me to draw faster which is always good practice for me.

Quick Update

The lack of posts have been due to me going camping over the long weekend. It was a fantastic weekend, just isn't so good for my regular updates. And I have quite a few things to catch up with now that I'm back, so I thought I would just chuck up a few photographs that I have taken recently before posting any other art.

Just a couple of birds at the local Gardens. The top one is a common sparrow while the bottom one is a finch of some kind I believe. Just trying some close-up nature pictures. Man these guys don't stay still for long!
