'Hunt' Project Concept Work

I got permisson to post a whole heap of things so I thought I would show the world a little bit of what I have been doing this term for our third year project.

We have created our own story, characters and everything! It is super exciting to be doing this project and it means I've been allowed to draw every day (which makes me an extremely happy person!) and let my creativity flow.

The team that I am in is really good and I think that we all work well together, our strengths are all slightly different so it makes for a very well balanced team! I'm beginning to feel incredibly excited, and I can't wait to see our final result. We still have five weeks to go on the project, but things are starting to come together very nicely and we are on track for completion!

So all in all, it has been an incredibly successful year so far. I'm loving the whole process and I can't wait to see what else is in store! :)

Photostudy Jellyfish

Just as the title suggest- a photostudy of some Jellyfish. This was a little different to what I usually draw so I thought I would give it a go. I apologise for the short update this week, but I've got my relatives all up this week and weekend so it makes for a very very busy time (but a lot of fun though)!

That's all for now! Thanks a lot for reading :)

Armageddon Post

Hey all out there! This was the picture that I drew as a sort of demonstration thing over the long weekend. I was there on the Saturday and then I came back on the Monday with my sister to have another look at the goodies that were available. I spent way too much money, but I did get a lot of cool stuff which was really good!

It was a lot of fun drawing this and talking to people about drawing and that sort of thing, though it was a little bit scary at first I sort of got used to it after a few hours. Oh and my favourite part of the weekend was when one guy was saying to his friends that the only reason my picture looked good was because I was using a large tablet- but when one of his friends actually had a look he saw that I was using a very small Wacom Bamboo and then his friends mocked him and laughed at him and it made me crack up laughing so much.

So a good weekend was hopefully had by all!

Right! That's all for now! Thanks for reading :)

Rock Gollum

Done entirely on Photoshop CS5 (as most of my images are these days), this guy was started with a silhouette. I then added varying tonal values, then added colour layers on top. I spent quite a while fiddling around with his colours to get them how I liked, but I don't think the end result is too bad. :)

There should be posters available at the Animation College NZ stall this Labour weekend of him- so if you're interested and going this weekend you should pop around and say 'hi' to all students that are working there! I will be going on the Saturday so if anyone is floating around then it would be awesome to hear from you guys!

Anyway, that's all for now!

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you again soon :)

Entries and a quick 'how-to'

Two recent pictures that I drew- the top one was A3 traditional (done with blue pencil then outlined in fibre tip pen) and the bottom picture was drawn entirely digitally (CS5). Below is a very rough tutorial that explains the process I used for the guy at the bottom for anyone that is interested. (I do hope that it's big enough!)

Also, as explained I know it's not the best tutorial/ right way to do things, but I just thought if it could possibly help people even a bit, well then it's worth it, right?

Just my logic anyway :)

Day Five

So this was the last official picture I did for the workshop :) I did another picture on the following day with Robh Ruppel but I didn't finish it, so I didn't think there was much point putting it up here.
I will write up about it soon- including some awesome advice that I picked up from the various artists at the workshop. Very exciting stuff! :)

Day three and four of the workshop- and here is what I've been up to!

Yo! Concept Art Stuff- Day One and Two

As it turns out I do have internet! SO I am updating after each day. I'm pretty tired now (days start at 9am and finish at 7pm) so I won't ramble on too long (for once :P).
Day One Alien Samurai Bust
Day One Alien Spider

Day Two Rat Dragon Catfish Alien Dude

Looking forward to tomorrow! Hopefully I can finish off more than one picture tomorrow so I can stick it up here as well.

That's all for now, and thanks for stopping by! :)

Stomp the Uni

A picture of a friends Neopet design that she asked for. I don't play Neopets anymore but when I was younger I used to be completely obsessed with it. It was rather unhealthy of me...

BUT I digress! It's good when I complete drawings. I just need to start putting more backgrounds into things.

Done in Photoshop over several hours.

It's Friday!!

It's Friday! And I've been sick most of this week. Silly winter bugs... But anyway!
Did this guy today. I spent ages working on another piece but I didn't really plan it very well to begin with so it ended up looking pretty bad.

SO I decided I would start on this one instead. I now realise there are a lot of mistakes with perspective and such. (And he looks like he has a wonky leg...)

But I will try and get it right next time. I now also realise I need to do weapon studies, and I am terrible and have no clue what weapons actually look like. So, it's been a good learning day all around for me! Despite all this, I still kinda like this guy with his dreads.

That's all for now!

Catch you later, and thanks for reading :)

Creature Creation

We had to create our own Alien creatures with a cybernetic suit and that had elements from several different animals. So I begun with some basic sketches to generate some ideas and I also did some animal studies (below).

And some gun studies above (just drawn from pictures of already existing guns for reference and ideas as I actually don't have a clue about what guns, of any sort of variation, look like).
Better put together concept page. I like this better than the last one I did and there are more this time. Hoorah!
My two favourite designs, but I eventually decided to go with the design on the right because I felt it worked better than Mr. Goat Man.
Just a turn around of my design! I have drawn his arms in the side view, but I haven't put that in in this version. But they do exist!

And I have just about completed modelling this guy, and I have begun to texture him in Mudbox (although I've been finding that it seems a bit of a fickle programme sometimes...) but still, it is good fun to use and hopefully I can get a nice model which looks like my design completed soon!

Coloured Drawings and Art Blocks

Just the black and white concepts from before but now with colour! Hooray!
Hmm... I like them individually, but the colours don't really work together all that well. I may have to change this later because it's kinda bugging me :I

I've been having a bit of an art block recently (which is frustrating because now I actually have some free time my brain/ hand is making all my drawings look poo). So hopefully I will come out the other side soon and make some good looking pictures. I want to do some full scenes because they're a lot more rewarding (and usually interesting to look at). And challenging. Good old challenges!

Well, that's all for now!

Female Concepts

Every Wednesday after class I've been going to these awesome Photoshop courses run by two different awesome concept artists. It does make a rather long day (13 hours usually as I'm in at 8am and the course finishes at pm) but I think it's totally worth it. And it means that I actually get some time on Photoshop, rather than getting distracted at home. Silly home. :P

And back on topic! Well, this is what I made during the second course. I still haven't finished some of the drawings from my first lesson thing... But I am working on them slowly, so I'll stick them up here once I'm done as well (I say that so often it's crazy- but I do actually intend to).

I was trying out some new things with the colours so the girl on the right looks a little funky. But it's all good fun experimenting with Photoshop! And two updates in as many days? What is this madness!?

Just a casual Tuesday evening

Just something a bit different for a change. What began as a doodle and spawned into something much more. I really enjoyed doing this though, got to play around with a lot of things and let my frustration out onto digital canvas. What can be better than that?

And so many layers. Which makes a change form my single layered speed-paints. Hooray for mixing things up!

Speed painting update

Hey guys! I haven't been on in a while because of all sorts of things happening in real life. But they are good things, and things are very exciting! I thought I would just update with a speed painting that I did today in the mean time. I'm trying to do so many different things at once, as usual, but some things are slipping by the way-side.

BUT ANYWAY! Here is the speed painting! Enjoy and hopefully soon I can do some proper updates with some other stuff :)

Speed painting of sorts

This was my first speed painting without reference! I had a lot of fun palying around with the colours and I tried to get some depth into this image... I find that hard sometimes... I also tried to play around with some of the leading lines and the general composition of this piece and I added the person for a little bit of interest and to add more of a focus for the picture. Done on CS5 as per usual. And now I'm keen to do more of this sort of thing!

Korra

For all those Korra fans out there. Ahh this is a fantastic series, and I'm really excited to see where it goes in the future. So while everyone is just waiting for the next episode to come out like I am, you will be subjected to my fanart of it for a little while.

And I was messing around with some new brushes on Photoshop (as well as adjustment layers and such). I'm trying to do things that I wouldn't usually do because the more experience the better, right?

Desert Scene

Daily (or so) speed paint. This one is pretty bad :x But I thought that I would upload anyway, get some fresh stuff up here as well. Tried out some different things as well with some new brushes and I'm not too sure about them, but hey I'll keep experimenting!
Stock photo was found here.

More Speedy Paintings

... But this time it was less speedy. This one took me about an hour, because I slowed down and tried to focus more on painting techniques and things. I played around a bit with various ways of doing things, but I only used 3 brushes in total and it was all done on one layer.

Going to try and do these as often as possible as I feel like I'm learning a lot from doing them.

Speed Painting

Just a quick upload of my speed painting that I did today just to get some practice in. As you can probably tell I have greatly fallen out of practice...

Took about 15-20 minutes in CS5. I'm going to try and make this a regular occurence, and I will upload them when I do them. Ohhhh I have so much to learn...

Oh! And the picture was drawn from a reference which can be found here.
