Portrait Practice

I've been spending a lot of time drawing recently, but it has been more general boring (to other people) practice stuff that isn't very exciting and I didn't feel like it should be shared. However I have these pictures!

I decided that I really wanted to do some good face (and partial torso) studies of humans, and I wanted to pay particular attention to making them recognisable to the actors (hopefully I have achieved that!). I have never felt comfortable with drawing  real people before as I was never confident but I finally decided to just go for it!

I will probably be doing quite a few more of these in the near future as they are good practice, fun and I am learning a lot from them too!

And I find it is good to pick people that a number of people would know because it forces me to make sure that they resemble them- rather than just picking a complete stranger that no one else would recognise! :) Soon I will do females as well!

Well, that is all from me for now. Until next time!

Thanks for reading! :)

Various Recent Studies

I've been trying to focus some more on improving my skill and expanding my visual library- so I figured what better way to do that than do some studies of various things!

Just some black and white studies. I intend on doing some colour studies at a slightly later stage but for now these are a few images that I've been drawing recently:

Anyway, I think it's a step in the right direction- a bit of study is always a good thing. I guess sometimes it's a good idea to try and focus on one thing and really study the heck out of it.

I think I will do this soon- really just do a full page or two so I can understand the creature/ object and how it works.

Thanks for reading,

Paula!

It's Friday!!

It's Friday! And I've been sick most of this week. Silly winter bugs... But anyway!
Did this guy today. I spent ages working on another piece but I didn't really plan it very well to begin with so it ended up looking pretty bad.

SO I decided I would start on this one instead. I now realise there are a lot of mistakes with perspective and such. (And he looks like he has a wonky leg...)

But I will try and get it right next time. I now also realise I need to do weapon studies, and I am terrible and have no clue what weapons actually look like. So, it's been a good learning day all around for me! Despite all this, I still kinda like this guy with his dreads.

That's all for now!

Catch you later, and thanks for reading :)

Focusing and studies

I apologise for the lack of updates lately! Time is just really getting away from me at the moment what with projects and the sort to finish off.

OK! Well, today I thought I would knuckle down and do a drawing study. I didn't want to spend too long on it, as it is only a study (which is why this isn't finished), but it turned out better than I was expecting.

I'm really trying to improve my drawing skills as I have decided that I really do want to be involved with concept art (hopefully involving games), so I'm trying to work on the foundations (and actually seeing what things look like- rather than just charging in and not really knowing where things go/ how things are proportioned), so I thought people were a good place to start. It is a little daunting seeing my skill level and where it is at the moment, and then thinking about where it needs to be to become professional. I know I need to improve a lot but sometimes it's a bit difficult to know where to begin...
Practice, practice, practice I suppose! I just need to practice a bit of everything now :)

Well, got to get onto more drawing. That's all for now, and thanks for reading!

Over and out! :)
