Creature Creation

We had to create our own Alien creatures with a cybernetic suit and that had elements from several different animals. So I begun with some basic sketches to generate some ideas and I also did some animal studies (below).

And some gun studies above (just drawn from pictures of already existing guns for reference and ideas as I actually don't have a clue about what guns, of any sort of variation, look like).
Better put together concept page. I like this better than the last one I did and there are more this time. Hoorah!
My two favourite designs, but I eventually decided to go with the design on the right because I felt it worked better than Mr. Goat Man.
Just a turn around of my design! I have drawn his arms in the side view, but I haven't put that in in this version. But they do exist!

And I have just about completed modelling this guy, and I have begun to texture him in Mudbox (although I've been finding that it seems a bit of a fickle programme sometimes...) but still, it is good fun to use and hopefully I can get a nice model which looks like my design completed soon!

Island Time

Ok! So, there will be no update next week as I am going to Niue for a week. Hopefully there will be better weather there than in New Zealand and warmer too.

So in the mean time I made this picture. Hooray for nice tropical colours! And I will update when I return and have some nice new work to put up :)

Coloured Drawings and Art Blocks

Just the black and white concepts from before but now with colour! Hooray!
Hmm... I like them individually, but the colours don't really work together all that well. I may have to change this later because it's kinda bugging me :I

I've been having a bit of an art block recently (which is frustrating because now I actually have some free time my brain/ hand is making all my drawings look poo). So hopefully I will come out the other side soon and make some good looking pictures. I want to do some full scenes because they're a lot more rewarding (and usually interesting to look at). And challenging. Good old challenges!

Well, that's all for now!

And finally pictures!

Ok, these are some silhouettes that I have done over the last couple of weeks (some more detailed than others) including some mecha-design and some instant recognition silhouettes (like the smoking/ sheriff dude up the top).

This is all the sort of stuff that I have been learning at the concept art workshop on Wednesday nights, and now I have a large enough collection to put up on here. And I stuck the three concepts of the girl in again because I felt like it fit in with everything else (as I did this on the course as well!). Huzah!

If you click on the picture you should be able to make it the actual size which is quite a bit larger. So do that if you're craving more details!
And these are my perspective drawings. I've really been trying to practice this skill a lot because I'm not especially good at it, so it has been challenging, but a whole heap of fun (especially when the picture actually turns out how you were expecting/ wanting!).

So I've got to keep practicing and trucking on with all my drawings. I also have a bunch of hand drawings that I will scan in sometime and stick up on here as well.

Ok! That's all for now! Thanks for stopping by :)

Sickness :(

Sorry for the lack of updates over the last couple of weeks, I've been really sick recently so I haven't much felt like doing drawings or anything other than sleeping really.

But I'm feeling a lot better now, so hopefully I can get some nice pictures up here soon, maybe a sketch dump or something because that's always a tonne more fun than what ever I actually have to say!

Female Concepts

Every Wednesday after class I've been going to these awesome Photoshop courses run by two different awesome concept artists. It does make a rather long day (13 hours usually as I'm in at 8am and the course finishes at pm) but I think it's totally worth it. And it means that I actually get some time on Photoshop, rather than getting distracted at home. Silly home. :P

And back on topic! Well, this is what I made during the second course. I still haven't finished some of the drawings from my first lesson thing... But I am working on them slowly, so I'll stick them up here once I'm done as well (I say that so often it's crazy- but I do actually intend to).

I was trying out some new things with the colours so the girl on the right looks a little funky. But it's all good fun experimenting with Photoshop! And two updates in as many days? What is this madness!?

Toothless and SackBoy and Amphy- oh my!

Hey guys! I figured I should upload this little dude dude that I made- he's my mini toothless Amigurumi. I made him way back in January but I only found these pictures on my iPod recently of him. He was made just from an online pattern... He's quite hard to see here but he's got wings and a tail and such... and he is made from black wool, though it looks kind of reddy and strange here.

And below is my work in progress when I made SackBoy a couple of months ago. Once again from a pattern I found on the internet (oh you are so marvellous internet).
Just starting his head... or foot. I'm not too sure which one that was actually

All of his limbs scattered everywhere

Everything roughly in place so I can start sewing him up!

Sewn up most of the little dude

HAYY-YAH! Karate chop off his head. Is it sad that this picture still amuses me?

Yay! All done and sewn together!

And below is both Toothless and SackBoy sitting at my desk at school. Because it's always good to have something to amuse you when Maya crashes and deletes your save files.

And this is the start of Ampharos! One of my friends' favourite Pokemon is Ampharos, so I decided to make him one (from WolfDreamers pattern). I have done the body and legs but I still need to do the tail and sew it all together. I'll upload a picture when I've completed Ampharos too, but for now you can just enjoy staring at his disembodied head. Because that's not morbid or terrifying at all...
